Enterprise Document Capture
Solutions: Documentum Caching
Caching content from Docuemntum onto a shared file system can be used in many ways including:
- Allowing users to access files more quickly at a remote site that
has a slow network connection.
- Allowing applications (such as publishing) to access large numbers of files quickly
and without using a Documentum API.
- Export content to an external web site.
- Archiving content to another site for backup, for writing to permanent media, or
for retiring a system.
The following configuration is a common way to cache Documentum content with CWS:
- Content Workspace is configured to run periodically.
It logs into Documentum, queries for new content, then copies the content and attributes
to a shared file system.
- Attributes can be used to specify where files are saved. They can be exported
to databases or excel spreadsheets.
- Content can be specified to be all renditions, just PDF, or just the original rendition.
Other key features of the Documentum Caching Solution:
- Scheduling can be configured to transfer content during off-peak hours
- Content is set to read-only to prevent users from updating cached content
- Documentum WebTop can be customized to look locally first for content, then remotely
- CWS has a sample web site that can be used as a starting point. It allows
navigation and searching.
